lyrics

Why is it that
We fear to go
Into the wildwood
Far below?
Is it pixies, fairies
Trolls or elves
Or old hags
Casting evil spells?
Or simply just
Fear of ourselves?

Why is it that
We fear to go
Into the wildwood
Far below?
The looming trees
The hooting owl
The dark Monk’s black cowl
The rustling leaves
Or the strange things
The mind believes

Why is it that
We fear to go
Into the wildwood
Far below?
Sounds of animals
Strange mythic beasts
having wild abandoned feasts
Badger and fox
Deer and Boar
These things
Make the heart roar

Why is it that
We fear to go
Into the wildwood
Far below?
Into the domain
Of the Green Man
Herne the Hunter
And the great god Pan
Will these things
Make you a lesser man?

Why is it that
We fear to go
Into the wildwood
Far below?
Is it stories
From fairy tales
Or fear after drinking
A jug of ale
Or simply that
Our minds are frail

Why is it that
We fear to go
Into the wildwood
Far below?
It is not in the domain of man
But of The woodland gods like Pan
When you believe this
You can safely go
Into the wildwood
Far below
